Joining the Lab
We periodically have research openings for undergraduate researchers, graduate students, and postdocs. Incoming graduate students and postdocs generally have prior research experience in ecology, evolution, and/or genetics. If you are interested in research opportunities in the lab, email Leonie at lmoyle[at]indiana.edu.

Undergraduate Classes:
- BIOL-L318 Evolution (3 CR): A core course for upper-division Biology Majors. The course is arranged into two sections. Section I introduces the mechanisms/forces of evolution. Section II addresses how evolutionary data and thinking can be used to explain key biological phenomena, including the origin and persistence of sex, reproduction, diversity, new species, and human variation. Graduate classes:
- BIOL-L568 Evolutionary Genetics (3 CR): A core graduate class in EEB, with combined lecture and discussion format. The course addresses the fundamentals of ecological and evolutionary processes at the genetic level, with a particular emphasis on empirical studies from a broad range of organisms.
- BIOL-Z620 Speciation (1.5 CR): This class provides an overview of the major themes and research questions in current speciation research, including: What mechanisms and evolutionary forces drive the formation of new species? What traits, genes, and genomic changes most frequently underlie speciation? What is the connection between speciation and broad patterns of biodiversity? The primary goal is to survey and discuss topics of active growth in the field of speciation.
- BIOL-Z620 Research Writing for EEB (1.5 CR): A graduate level course designed to provide a ‘skills-based’ approach to presenting and evaluating research in EEB, with a specific focus on demystifying the process of writing and reviewing research proposals. During the semester, students will develop plans for a specific research project, and write a proposal supporting this proposed research in the format of a Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant (DDIG). Other assessment in the class is based on several short, directed, written pieces, in addition to peer-review exercises, including participation in a grant review panel.
